Bright Banya

A wood-fired banya, cold plunge tubs, two spas and a firepit on two private hectares under the pines — minutes from the centre of Bright. Social sessions, private bookings and parenie, opening soon.

The banya in Bright

A true wood-fired banya under the pines of Bright.

Our Bright property is two private hectares of lawn and old trees, with a pine forest at the back and the Ovens River, the rail trail and Bright's cafés a few minutes away. Here, nestled within the nature of this unique property, we are building a wood-fired banya with cold plunge tubs, two spas and a firepit — a family-run home business sharing the warmth and the traditions of the banya, before the larger project comes to life.

It is a true banya: a 1.5-tonne wood-fired cast-iron heater with an enclosed rock chamber produces huge amounts of light, overheated steam — the steam that lets the true banya rituals happen. Sessions are guided by the steam master, taken slowly, with the cold and the fire as much a part of the session as the heat — offering both private and social group sessions.

Social sessions

Friendly ticketed group sessions: steam, plunge, spa, firepit, music and good conversation. Everyone is welcome — bring the family, and sit by the fire even if the heat isn't for you. Sessions are ticketed per person and priced so that locals can make them a habit, not a once-a-year treat — the affordable, social side of what we do, next to the private Log Banya in Mount Beauty.

Banya rituals

Parenie with the steam master, a free introductory venik lesson at every social session, and an Aufguss-style opening in a banya much like Mount Beauty's.

The banya

A shipping container, lined in chunky rough-sawn cedar.

The Bright banya starts life as a shipping container. Inside it is lined in chunky rough-sawn cedar, with a slate wall behind the heater and panoramic windows onto the surrounding nature. The heater is a 1.5-tonne wood-fired cast-iron stove with an enclosed rock chamber heated to 600–700 °C: water on those rocks produces huge amounts of light, overheated steam, and the room sits at 60–80 °C — the climate of a true banya, not the dry heat of a sauna.

Outside, the rest of the ritual: two stainless plunge tubs for the cold, kept at 18 °C and 6 °C — a slower cooldown or the full contrast; two Stoked Stainless spas, made in New Zealand, at 37 °C and 41 °C — for those who like it more relaxed or hotter; outdoor showers; a firepit for the long relaxation between rounds; and a timber swing under the big tree for deep relaxation after the parenie ritual. For colder or rainy days there is the Pyramid — an existing building whose central communal area has a projector screen, comfortable sofas and a bioethanol fire pit — with eight bedrooms for those who would like to stay overnight, coming soon.

Social sauna sessions
Bright · opening soon

Social sauna sessions.

Run as friendly ticketed events at The Banya Place in Bright — sauna culture for physical, mental and social wellbeing.

Social sauna is community health. A session of heat, cold and conversation does more for a tired body and a busy head than most things you can buy — and it is better shared. Locals and visitors, side by side.

Wood-fired banya

Soft steam, rounds led by the steam master.

Veniks — free intro

Every session opens with a free introductory venik lesson: how to hold it, warm it and use it on yourself. Treatments by the master on request.

Cold plunge & warm spas

Two tubs at 18 °C and 6 °C for the cold; two spas at 37 °C and 41 °C for the warm.

Firepit, music, conversation

The reason to stay long after your last steam.

“We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds. Bring your family and friends. Feel free to hang around the fire even if you're not sure the sauna is for you.”

Private bookings

The banya to yourselves.

Your own group, your own pace: steam, plunge, spa, firepit, BBQ. Private sessions run for a minimum of three hours so the ritual has room to work — long enough for the body to move through heat, cold and relaxation more than once. Private sessions of the Bright banya are booked through Banya for your events, where the banya can be yours for a celebration, a team day or simply your own group; Bright pricing is published when we open.

Questions

Before your first steam.

How long is a social session?

Around three hours — enough for several rounds of heat and cold, with time at the fire in between. Private bookings are a minimum of three hours too.

Can children come?

Yes, with an adult. Social sessions are for all ages; the steam master runs a gentle first steam for children and first-timers. Children must be supervised at all times around the tubs and the spas.

Can I just sit by the fire?

Absolutely. Come for the company, the music and the firepit; try the banya when you're ready — or not at all.

What do I bring?

Swimwear; two towels — one to sit on, one to dry yourself at the end; a refillable water bottle; thongs or slippers; and a dressing gown for the colder weather. We lend felt hats.

Can we book the banya privately?

Yes — your own group for a minimum of three hours, booked through Banya for your events. We confirm availability personally.

When do you open?

We are building now. The first session dates will be announced on Instagram — follow @thebanyaplace. Leave your email above and we will tell you when bookings open.

Where exactly are you?

On the edge of Bright, a few minutes from town. The exact address comes with your ticket or booking confirmation.

Can we stay the night?

Yes — with a private session, the first night's camping is free for your group (more nights by request); The Cabin is on the same property, and eight bedrooms in the Pyramid are coming soon.
