Soft steam, real fire, a mountain to look at.
At its heart sits a 1.5-tonne firewood heater with an enclosed stone chamber — built to produce huge volumes of soft, overheated steam, the signature of a true banya. Your session is guided by the steam master: an Aufguss opening with group venik, then the soft steam of the banya, then out into the cold.
Between steams there's the infinity pool, the spa and the ice bath, with uninterrupted views of Mt Bogong, Victoria's highest mountain. Private sessions are unhurried — a minimum of three hours — because the ritual cannot be rushed. Tea and water are provided and there's a gas BBQ on the deck — feel free to bring your own food or snacks.
You leave loose in the body, quiet in the head — and you'll sleep like a child tonight.

Winner — Best Custom Home, Master Builders Victoria 2026 Regional Building Awards (Northern).
The Log Banya is the wellness wing of the Banya House — a complex alpine build of Canadian log construction, in-situ concrete and advanced engineering, with a suspended concrete balcony and the infinity-edge pool. Built with Wallaby Homes.

The strongest contrast we offer.
Body
- Heart & circulation
The deep steam works the heart and blood vessels like a brisk walk.
- Recovery
Heat loosens tired legs after the mountain; the cold resets them.
- Deep sleep
The cool-down after a banya evening is the body's own sleep signal.
Mind
- Stress melts
Three hours with nothing to achieve except the next steam.
- The banya glow
Lighter, clearer, quietly happy.
- Connection
The long conversation between steams is part of the health story.
Two minutes of cold: the reset button for a busy head.
A rush of alertness, then a calm that settles in over the following hours — and better sleep that night.
What happens in a guided steam.
- 1
Aufguss — the opening
We begin while the room is still drier and hotter — sauna mode — with an Aufguss: two rounds of heat, exactly ten minutes each, with a round of cold between them. A fan moves the heat, an infusion of oils goes onto the stones, music plays, and a touch of group venik fills the room with the scent of oak, eucalyptus and herbs.
- 2
The venik round
Then water on the enclosed stones and the room becomes a true banya — humidity up, heat soft and deep. Private venik treatments follow, one guest at a time — or take a 30-minute sauna whisk lesson — a very basic introduction — and try it on each other.
- 3
Contrast
Straight from the steam into the ice bath or the pool to cool down — then the warmth comes back doubled.
- 4
Relaxation — self-guided
Loungers, the spa, tea on the deck with unobstructed views of Mount Bogong — the highest mountain in Victoria. From here the session is yours: again, as many rounds as you want. Finish with a BBQ on the deck — bring your own food — the nicest way to end a banya. Session time can be extended, subject to availability.

The practical bits.
1–12 guests. The spa is limited to a maximum of 8 people at a time.
Minimum three hours; longer if you'd like more rounds, subject to availability.
Infinity pool, spa and ice bath access, a guided Aufguss opening with group venik, felt hats to borrow, tea and water.
Swimwear; two towels per person — one to sit on, one to dry yourself at the end; a refillable water bottle; thongs or slippers; and a dressing gown for the colder weather.
Anyone — you don't need to be staying with us. The Log Banya is booked separately from any accommodation.

Our home, one group at a time.
The Log Banya is the wellness wing of our own house in Mount Beauty. We host one group at a time and no more than one or two sessions a week, so each one is private, unhurried and guided from start to finish — the full ritual as it should be. That is what the price reflects: your own steam master, three hours of wood-fired steam, the pool, the spa and the ice bath, all heated and ready for just your group. Shared between friends it comes to around $120 a person — a birthday, an anniversary, a reunion, a reward after the mountain.
It is not the only way to banya with us. In Bright we are building the everyday banya: social sessions ticketed per person at a price a local family can afford, alongside private bookings. If the Log Banya is the special occasion, Bright is the Sunday habit. Be first to know when Bright opens →
Tell us when you'd like to come and how long you'd like to steam — we'll confirm your session personally.
There is no fixed schedule: the Log Banya runs by request. Exact address comes with your confirmation.
Staying the night? The yurts are right here.
Two yurts by the creek with your own Finnish sauna, spa and ice bath — on the same property as the Log Banya. Steam, sleep, wake up under Mt Bogong.

Before you book.
How does booking work?
By request. Send the form below with your preferred date, group size and session length, and we'll confirm availability personally — usually within a day.
What will I feel afterwards?
Loose, warm and very calm. Most guests report the best sleep in months that night.
Do I need any experience?
No. The steam master guides every round and shows first-timers how to use the venik and the cold.
Can we book for just two people?
Yes — the Log Banya is private bookings only, and a standard session covers anywhere from 1 to 8 guests at the same price. The estimate in the booking form shows exactly what your session would cost before you send a request.
Is parenie included or extra?
The guided Aufguss opening with group venik is part of every session. Private venik treatments are optional extras, booked per person. Parenie is hard physical work for the steam master, who needs rest between treatments: a three-hour session allows up to two treatments and longer bookings up to three, and we give no more than three signature parenie (or parenie with scrub) in a day — for a weekend, book early. A 30-minute sauna whisk lesson and extra oak whisks to take home can be added too. Off-peak prices apply Monday to Thursday; peak prices Friday to Sunday and on Victorian public holidays.
What do I wear?
In the banya itself, swimwear or a towel wrap — whichever you're comfortable in. Swimwear is required in the pool, the spa, the ice bath and all outdoor areas. We lend felt hats.
Is it safe for me?
Banya is gentle when taken slowly, but if you have a heart condition, high blood pressure, are pregnant or have been unwell recently, check with your doctor first. No alcohol before the heat; drink water; listen to your body.
Why does a session cost what it does?
Because it is our home and we keep it to one group at a time — one, at most two sessions a week. Every session means a wood-fired heater lit hours before you arrive, the pool, spa and ice bath brought to temperature, and a steam master with you for three hours or more. The building will never pay for itself at any price — it was built because we love banya — so the price simply covers the day and keeps the number of sessions small enough to stay personal. Split between a group it is about $120 a person.
Is there a more affordable way to try banya with you?
Yes — that is what Bright is for. Our second banya, opening soon minutes from the centre of Bright, will run social sessions ticketed per person at an everyday price, with a free introductory venik lesson at every session, as well as private bookings. Join the notify list and you'll hear first.
